DESCRIPTION FOR MEDIA
Committed to providing a learning community that fosters creative confidence, Lake Washington Girls Middle School (LWGMS) opened its doors in 1998 as the first secular girls middle school (grades 6, 7, 8) in Seattle. Since then, we have proven that a learning environment encouraging girls to take risks, explore leadership, solve problems, collaborate, and stand up for themselves and others is a model that works. Our challenging curriculum is designed to educate the whole girl: intellectually, socially, and emotionally—with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum and social justice.
Lake Washington Girls Middle School empowers girls to be strong in mind, body, and voice.
Lake Washington Girls Middle School values diversity and promotes personal and social responsibility. Students, teachers, and families are active partners in creating a challenging academic environment, fostering independent thinking, and instilling a lifelong love of learning.
Lake Washington Girls Middle School holds up the opportunity of a world in which girls are nurtured and empowered to reach their academic, social, and emotional potential. To that end, the school provides a supportive single-gender learning environment where students, teachers, staff, families, and our surrounding community are active partners in inspiring leadership, social responsibility, and self-confidence in girls.
